If you're assisting a loved one with daily activities, you may benefit from the Michigan's Home Help Program. This state-funded initiative provides financial assistance to eligible Michigan residents who require help at home for personal care and emotional support. Eligible individuals can select a trusted caregiver—be it a relative, friend, or neighbor—to provide the necessary care. Once approved, the program compensates these caregivers (someone like you!) for their invaluable services.
Key Benefits:
Financial Compensation
Receive payment for the essential care you provide.
Personalized Support
Access resources tailored to your caregiving needs.
Maintain Independence
Help your loved ones stay safe and in the comfort of their own homes.
Navigating the application process can be complex, but we're here to assist you every step of the way. Our team will help determine your eligibility and guide you through enrollment, ensuring a smooth experience for both the care receiver and the caregiver.
Take the next step towards receiving the support you deserve. Contact us today to learn more about how the Michigan Home Help Program can benefit you and your loved one.
The care seeker must be a Michigan resident
They cannot be the spouse or the minor child of the caregiver.
Family caregivers must be at least 18 years old, may be a relative, friend, neighbor of the care seeker, or health care agency, and capable of providing the necessary care.
There are also criteria on the person they give care to:
They must have physical or mental limitations that prevent them from performing daily living tasks.
Their income, assets, and home ownership must meet Medicaid limitations.
For the person receiving care, we just need to collect their Medical Needs form and an Adult Services Application form, which we then send out to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The Medical Needs form can be emailed or faxed to us by the doctor, and the Adult Services Application form can be emailed, faxed, or texted to us by the family. An Adult Service Worker is subsequently assigned and determines the services and number of hours the care receiver is eligible for.
For the caregiver, we guide them through their registration on the Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System (CHAMPS). It is important to note that the application process may take time, as MDHHS allows Adult Services Workers 45 days to make an eligibility determination, and CHAMPS takes up to 10 days to do background checks on caregivers.
The following are some of the requirements in the qualification process for either the person receiving care:
Medical Needs Form
A Medical Needs form must be signed by the care seeker's doctor indicating the need for care. It verifies the need for care to the state.
Application Form
The person receiving care will also need to fill out an Adult Services Application Form, which we'd then send to MDHHS along with their Medical Needs form.
And those are some of the requirements in the qualification process for the family/friend caregiver:
Register on CHAMPS
Caregivers must get registered in the State of Michigan's CHAMPS system in order to receive payment for their services.
Pass Background Check
While individuals with criminal records can still be paid caregivers, certain crimes may disqualify them.
